This Skyspace was created by world renowned artist James Turrell and is located on the Rice University campus in Houston. As an alumna of Rice, Deal Booth was inspired to bring a unique artwork to the campus that would be a part of the everyday life of the student. She believes that art should not be put on a pedestal but be a part of the fabric of life – inspiring us and changing our perceptions. Deal Booth worked for Turrell on the first Skyspace he created at PS1 in Queens and then became one of his most important early patrons. In this work, the combination of natural and slowly shifting artificial light tricks the eye of the viewer into a new awareness of light and perception.
